Angela Lea Smith, 33, was charged with a range of driving offences including culpable driving negligently causing death, failure to provide assistance at a crash and speeding.
Jozef Stefaniak, 24, died after he was thrown from the vehicle Ms Smith allegedly crashed.
It was alleged Ms Smith and her passenger, Kane David Kell, then fled the scene of the fatal crash before police arrested them in Griffith.
Ms Smith also was charged with driving without a seatbelt, drug driving, driving an uninsured vehicle and driving an unregistered vehicle.
Police initially claimed it was Mr Kell, 21, who was behind the wheel when it lost control. He was arrested and charged with speeding and culpable driving causing death. However, earlier this month prosecutors told the court that new information meant they would need to "reassess" their position against him, and he was released on bail.
Mr Stefaniak, Ms Smith and Mr Kell had allegedly been in a white BMW which was seen by witnesses driving at 120km/h on Yarra Glen before the driver lost control.
The car rolled twice as it crashed, throwing Mr Stefaniak from the car; Ms Smith and Mr Kell then fled the scene, the court has been told.
Documents tendered in court on Saturday said witnesses and CCTV footage had seen Mr Kell and Ms Smith argue before they swapped seats, with Ms Smith taking the driver's seat.
Police recorded a conversation between Mr Kell and his mother two days after the accident, while Mr Kell was held in the Alexander Maconochie Centre, where he told his mother Ms Smith had been driving.
On Thursday, another witness told police Ms Smith had admitted to being the driver at the time of the crash.
Ms Smith was refused bail and is expected to appear in court next month.
