Carlton chose the West Australian teenagers in the AFL draft on Friday morning and by Monday morning they had joined their new team at Princes Park.

Fisher improved a lot in 2016, but said he was surprised about how high up in the draft order he was chosen.

At just 175 centimetres tall and slightly built, the small midfielder is the first to acknowledge he needs to work on building an AFL-type physique.

Carlton's second pick, No.27 overall, said he needed to improve his strength and size before playing senior football.

"The way they eat here is crazy, but I suppose you have to with the amount they train," he said.

"They just don't stop, [it's] carbs, carbs, carbs."

Even though he suffered a hamstring injury this year, talented midfielder Petrevski-Seton was the club's first pick, No.6 overall.

Many WA players suffer from homesickness when they move to the east coast, but Petrevski-Seton said he had been keen to start his career elsewhere.

Originally from the tiny town of Halls Creek in the Kimberley, he had already coped with one big move when he shifted to Perth about four years ago to continue his schooling and develop his English skills.

"I had to adapt to the city life pretty quickly, catching public transport to school, school to training and back to my house," he said.

"I've been there four years and kind of ticked the box ... I just wanted to be in Victoria, home of footy."

Petrevski-Seton said he had been enjoying his first week at the club and found the other players friendly, although he was still getting used to how much was involved in AFL life.

"I just never stops, you finish training, you go and you're in a meeting, getting ready to train the next day," he said.

Carlton's No.65 pick, Patrick Kerr, is a life-long Blues fan.

His grandfather Laurie played nearly 150 games for the club and his grandmother Viv is the club's No.1 female ticket-holder.

The key forward spent draft night with his family and said Viv was extremely happy when Carlton called his name out.

"I've never seen an 86-year-old lady jump out of her chair so high," he said.

"Everybody was very happy and it's made a lot of their years."

Laurie died when Kerr was a toddler, but he said his family had told him about what kind of footballer his grandfather had been.

"Viv has told me many stories about him playing on the wing and going hard at the ball, he definitely put his head over it, he was quick and his skills weren't too bad either," he said.
