The talented small forward heads a glut of GWS youngsters eyeing the century mark this season, with Jeremy Cameron and Devon Smith (94 games), Dylan Shiel (88) and Stephen Coniglio (85) next in line to achieve the milestone.

Underage recruit Adam Treloar became the first of the Giants' initial batch of kids to play 100 AFL games, but reached the mark at his new club Collingwood, while co-captain Callan Ward has pulled on the orange and charcoal 108 times after starting his career at the Western Bulldogs.

Greene was voted the club's best and fairest player last season, and was one of the Giants' best in Sunday's opening-round thumping by Adelaide.

And the man who lends his name to the most prestigious award at GWS after coaching the club in its first two seasons said Greene was always destined to leave his mark on the AFL.

"He's a kid that's got some boldness about him," Sheedy told Fairfax Media. "I like people like that who actually believe in themselves, feel like they're going to go somewhere because they're going to put the effort in,

"There's a little bit of rough edges around him, which you can always trim. Sometimes you can't find that in a player. He's got courage, which I like about him, and he's a person prepared to work hard.

"He's just finished his apprenticeship. In the old days if you played 60, 70 games we thought with that you were on your way. It's 100 games these days because you're off the ground probably 20 per cent of the game."

Sheedy and his staff drafted Greene with pick 11 in the 2011 national draft, and the 23-year-old has missed only a handful of games in his first six seasons.

He joined the club as a midfielder, but was willing to mould himself into an attacking player and has become one of the league's most dangerous small forwards, his return of 44 goals last season easily a career best.

Inaugural club captain Luke Power said Greene's work ethic and willingness to change his game earned him instant respect at the Giants.

"We had a lot of young midfielders when we started and they all saw themselves as on-ballers and the first one that accepted playing in a different position was Toby. He accepted playing forward and he didn't whinge about it," Power said.

"He's a beauty. He's probably the best player at the moment at the Giants in terms of consistency. I know that he won the BNF [best and fairest] last year but he just consistently performs at a really high level.

"He always wins one on ones - for the last three years he probably hasn't lost a one-on-one contest. If you can do that as a forward you become pretty dangerous.

"If you were halfway through the last quarter of a grand final and the scores were even, you'd know who'd be the player who'd be coming for you and that's Toby, he just doesn't give up."

Power said Greene had matured immeasurably since joining the Giants, particularly after his arrest in 2014 following a bar brawl in Melbourne.

"He's had his issues obviously, which have been well documented and he was in the wrong, but it was all off the back of probably being too loyal," Power said.

"Loyalty is probably his number one asset. He's loyal in spades.

"He's also a very intelligent kid who learns quickly. He'll always remember your name, he's very respectful, if you ask anyone at the Giants they'll all say the same thing.

"I'm proud of what he's achieved because he's a great kid."

Giants coach Leon Cameron has made two changes for Saturday's clash with the Suns. Jacob Hopper replaces the injured Tendai Mzungu while Nathan Wilson comes in for Matthew Kennedy, who has been omitted.
