Fairfax Media understands the club has held talks with the league over the past two days, to see if it's viable to move a home final from ANZ Stadium to the SCG.

Accommodating about 10,000 paid-up spectators including a large corporate sector who had expected to watch any home final at ANZ appears to be the major stumbling block, given the SCG would likely be bulging at capacity should it be required to host a final.

ANZ Stadium has a capacity of 82,500, making it almost 35,000 seats larger than the SCG.

The Swans are in their final year of an ANZ Stadium deal that requires finals to be played at the Olympic venue. That deal included playing three regular season matches at the venue, but Sydney were able to negotiate an early end to that part of the contract in February.

It is understood the possibility of moving potential 2016 finals games to the SCG was also discussed during those pre-season negotiations.

Successfully transferring the game to the SCG would cap off a huge week for the club which announced on Tuesday it had signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Qatar Airways, just days after rocketing to the top of the AFL ladder.

A win over Richmond would secure the minor premiership unless Adelaide demolishes West Coast on Friday night and picks up a huge percentage boost. That would likely mean a qualifying final between the Swans and Hawthorn.

Sydney chairman Andrew Pridham was coy when asked on Tuesday about the chances of moving the qualifying final to the SCG, but said the club had a duty to represent its supporters.

"We understand that our fans have a strong preference to playing any home finals at the SCG which is our home ground," Pridham said.

"The AFL's well aware of our opinion, we obviously represent our 56,000 members, 1.2 million supporters who make it very clear they'd prefer to play here.

"I don't think people should have high expectations but it's possible.

"The contract for finals is between ... ANZ Stadium and the AFL and we're really in their hands as to what will occur.

"From a football perspective we've played 10 finals at ANZ Stadium, we've won eight of them, so either venue we have no fear of playing at.

"If it can be at the SCG that's fantastic. We'll just have to wait and see."

The Swans' formidable finals record at both grounds means co-captain Kieren Jack isn't bothered where Sydney plays in week one of the play-offs.

"We've had some great games at ANZ Stadium and finals games before so at the moment that's the contract and that's what we prepare for if we get there," Jack said.

The Swans missed Jack in a battling win over North Melbourne last weekend, but he's expected to shake off an ankle injury and return to the field this week.

Meanwhile, Pridham has revealed he sent a note to Port Adelaide chairman David Koch following the Power's swift response to one of their fans throwing a banana at Indigenous Adelaide forward Eddie Betts on Saturday night.

"The fact that the condemnation of what occurred it was immediate, it was very clear, I think is just fantastic and I think we're in a better place this year than we were in previous years," Pridham said.

"I feel that one of the many benefits that came out of the Adam Goodes situation which was clearly not a positive event in the history of Australia or the AFL, is the fact that I think clearly there's a greater understanding in the wider community as well as within the AFL system itself just how hurtful these events can be."
