Average Australian families were left behind as Treasurer Scott Morrison took small businesses, high-income earners and young job seekers into "extraordinary times" on Tuesday night.

This is the view of Canberra father Rajib Bharadi, who feels low and average income earners got only crumbs from the federal budget cookie jar.
The UnitingCare support worker's wife Binida Grii is an assistant nurse and their 10-year-old daughter Ragyi attends Harrison Primary School.
Mr Bharadi thought well-off workers were being favoured by the budget's tax breaks and that the government did not understand what most Australians earn.
"As far as I know, lots of my colleagues and friends are on about $50,000 to $60,000 a year. $80,000 is big money.
"Most people that I know don't earn that much money."
When asked if the superannuation tax hit for the wealthy evened things out, he said easing financial stress off lower income earners would help him more than punishing the rich.
He was equally concerned about the 20 per cent funding cut to universities and a failure to address housing affordability.
The family moved from Nepal to Australia a few years ago and Mr Bharadi was hoping to study at university to further his career. He worried about the cuts affecting his future.
Seeing no changes to negative gearing was also upsetting, as he partially blames the practice for the trouble he had breaking into the housing market when he moved to Canberra.
He believes "the rich" are taking advantage of negative gearing at the cost of many families doing it tough, not just young people.
"I don't think negative gearing is good for everybody, because it's not fair for others to get a second home when so many people don't have a first home," Mr Bharadi said.
"I really wanted a house but I had to settle for an apartment which is too small."
But he saw the $1.2 billion education package and $2.9 billion in additional funding to state and territory hospitals as good news for families. He felt the education plan's focus on student outcomes and reporting to parents would help him monitor his daughter's progress.
Overall, however, the negatives outweighed the positives.
"I hope the government starts to do more to help people like us."
