The ABC Giving Tree is one of the ways to help those in need - and it's already starting to receive presents.
Until Friday, December 7, Canberrans can donate Christmas gifts suitable for children aged between nine and 12 to the Giving Tree in the ABC's reception area, at its headquarters on the corner of Northbourne and Wakefield avenues in Dickson.
The donations will assist The Smith Family’s Toy and Book Appeal – part of their wider Christmas campaign. The gifts will be donated to 25,000 children nationally, with 625 distributed within the ACT.
The children receiving the gifts are all from disadvantaged backgrounds and are sponsored through the charity for financial support for educational costs, mentoring and access to a range of educational programs.
Ideas for gifts for boys and girls aged between nine and 12 include:
- Sporting items
- Board games
- Books
- Craft items
- Children's baking kits
- Back-to-school items
The Smith Family will also accept gift vouchers, which they will use to purchase gifts on the children’s behalf.
People can drop off their gifts at the ABC reception from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
