Canberra's only community environmental legal centre says it is facing closure unless it continues to receive ACT government funding.

The ACT Environmental Defenders Office says its funding has never been more important as the bush capital faces an environmental "crisis", according to its budgetary submission.
The ACT government stepped in to fund the office after federal budget cuts to Environmental Defenders Offices across Australia in 2014.
"The health of our environment is at a crisis point," the office said in its submission.
"We not only need robust laws in place to prevent extinctions, habitat loss and the worsening impacts of climate change - we need legal services to ensure that such laws are being followed."
The office said Canberra faced environmental degradation at the hands of climate change and development leading to habitat loss or modification.
"Note that the ACT is home to 20 species of flora and fauna at high risk of extinction in the wild in the future," the office said.
The majority of the office's work was casework and providing advice on the ACT's planning laws to local community organisations.
The office said it provided free legal advice on planning and development, conservation, cultural heritage and tree protection, as well as air and noise pollution.
The submission asked for a funding budget of $210,000 per year, indexed to inflation, to be laid out in next year's 2019-20 ACT budget.
An ACT government spokesman said the office's budget submission was being considered through the usual process.
"It is important to remember this government continues to lead action on climate change and the environment, helping protect our bush capital," the spokesman said.
The office said the government signalled in November 2016 it would provide funding for the next two years while helping it find sustainable revenue streams.
When asked what work it had done to help the office find outside funding, the government did not respond directly to the question.
The Environmental Defenders Office was also contacted for comment.
"Much like other community legal services, we do depend on government funding to remain open," the office's submission said.
Unless the office can find further funding, it said would have to close its doors by July 1, 2019.
