Daryl Dixon ("Retirees burn assets to keep age pension", August 21, p43) argues while older retirees may be reluctant to dissipate large amounts of capital to retain access to the age pension, the low cash interest returns now provide compelling reasons to do so when the new 7.8 per cent assets test taper rate comes into effect.
