Princely sum wasted

The federal government professes to be casting about looking for solutions to our spending problem. It is clearly time to remind the Treasurer that the age of entitlement is over and the government has to lead by example. First, the royals are well able to pay for their own vacations/working holidays in the colonies ("Taxpayers to foot $500k bill for royal flying visit", November 15, p12), and while I don't begrudge their ability to travel first class and eat things that seem to me to be incredibly overpriced, whatever they are, I am troubled by the fact their trip has cost us one-third of the projected estimated amount that could be collected through death duties, should the government choose to hit with that double tax ("Government refuses to rule out death duties", November 15, p12).
