When it comes to quaffing whisky, 'authenticity' has no taste

There is a telling diplomatic moment in You Only Live Twice, Sean Connery's fifth Bond film. Set in Japan, one scene has Bond trouncing a henchman, stuffing the unconscious body in a liquor cabinet, then pouring himself a neat shot. He says cheers to the sleeping villain, downs the spirit, then grimaces. "Siamese vodka," he says with incredulity.
