The complex, which will be built on the land opposite the Landmark Apartments in the suburb, will be officially listed on the market in August.
It has been described by Colin Stewart Architects as a long linear apartment building with “a ship-like bow” pointing directly to the north towards the National Gallery of Australia.
Colliers International has already received hundreds of registrations of interest from people wanting to buy into the first large apartment release in Barton for about two years.
Governor Place is a master planned site that will include a mixture of 136 residential apartments, offices, and retail and hospitality shop fronts on the car park bordered by Blackall, Macquarie and Broughton streets.
The two residential buildings will be the first stage of development for the precinct.
Colliers ACT state chief executive Paul Powderly said there would be plenty of interest in the site because it was likely to be the last large residential development in Barton due to a lack of available land.
“We're only in the early days of communication [but] the inquiry in the first four days has been extremely good,” he said.
Mr Powderly said construction would likely begin early in 2014 and would take about 14 to 16 months.
Morris Property Group and Doma Group purchased the site for $16.5 million in 2010.
It became a paid car park later that year.
Morris Property Group director Louise Morris previously said the developers had wanted to progress plans initially for an office block on part of the car park but had been unable to secure a tenant.
The joint venture team had decided instead to work on releasing part of the site for the apartment complex as the first stage of the project.
The developers plan to consecutively roll out the remainder of the stages.
