We start off with the girls musing about how the house is starting to feel empty. There's a single envelope waiting and Jess snaps it up, to reveal who's next allowed day release from the mansion.

"It's gotta be Lisa," they all scream.

Apparently the girls have caught onto how the show works – they've guessed it in one.

"You get my heart racing," the card reads.

"I am so excited – I've been waiting for this second date for a while now," says Lisa.

Luckily Lisa sees through the thinly veiled clue for her date, and wears a fascinator – just in case.

And what do you know, she's off to Royal Randwick race course.

"I mentioned to Blake at the last cocktail party that I really love the races, that it's one of my favourite things to do," Lisa says. "So I don't know how he turned this around so quickly and hired out the whole Randwick Race Course. What a legend."

Denial.

I hate to spoil the magic Lisa, but turns out 31-year-old bachelor Blake Garvey has a whole team of magical elves called producers and other television types who can set these sort of things up for him. Don't hold it against him though – in between dates, a lot of Blake's time is spent keeping the hundreds of candles lit and tending to the vases of flowers back at the Bachelor Pad. And, of course, perfecting his slow blinking in the mirror.

Blake and Lisa both pick a horse to race against each other and Lisa suggests that the loser has to give the other a massage, a wager she thinks is going to be a, "win-win situation".

Lisa's horse just makes it over the line first, and she earns herself a massage IOU from Blake.

They head for a glass of wine on a balcony overlooking the city, to chat about kids and the future, before moving onto a couch, where Lisa cashes in on her massage. Blake rubs her shoulders, while Lisa muses, 'you could definitely be a bit of a keeper Blake with those hands."

Lisa decides to put it all out there, and tells Blake, "I can definitely see myself falling in love with you".

Blake looks like he's hyperventilating, and buys himself some time with some slow blinking.

"I'm kind of speechless, I didn't expect that," he says, before pulling out a rose to lighten the mood.

Lisa gets back and recounts her date, complete with details about the massage.

"Alright we don't need to hear any of this," says Sam.

Denial.

"It was a bit confronting hearing all the details – I try and separate my Blake that I'm dating from the one that Lisa's dating," says Zoe.

More denial.

"Lisa and Blake have a connection that I don't have. I guess the thing is essentially I just try not to compare my experience and my connection with Blake to anyone else's. Cause the minute I start doing that, doubting myself and insecurities will come in, and that's just not a door I'm going to open," Jess says.

A bit more denial.

The next morning, there's a bit of drama, and Laurina has been taken to hospital overnight with bad stomach pains. The girls all question what this will mean come the rose ceremony.

For the next date, Chantal runs in with the date card. "Are you a believer", says the card.

Heading along on the group date is Sam, Louise, Zoe, Lauren and Jess.

Sam guesses it's a magic show.

Jess says: "I'm convinced it's 'are you a believer in fairy tales'," guessing the date involves beautiful long dresses.

Oh Jess, you couldn't be more off the mark.

The five girls head along on the date, all rugged up, to find Blake, host Osher Gunsberg and a lady waiting for them.

Osher reveals that the girls will be going on a night tour of the old quarantine station near Sydney's North Head, which is said to be haunted, and they will be led by psychic medium Debbie Malone.

With that announcement, Osher takes off real quick.

First off the group heads into the old hospital, and Debbie gives a few psychic readings.

Jess gets hers first, with Debbie saying that there is a soulmate on her radar.

"You're actually showing me a little rose and it's starting to blossom," says Debbie, and I'm actually surprised Jess didn't burst into a million tiny pieces right there and then.

When it's Blake's turn for a reading, Debbie says, "Don't worry I won't go into the romance side."

"You can go there," says Blake. "You can make the next few weeks for us really simple."

Showing more about her familiarity with the show and less about her psychic ability, Debbie reveals she sees a good probability of a relationship forming for Blake.

Then they all head off on their tour, led by lantern light.

After the dramas of the last group date, Jess claims she's trying to tread carefully.

"I've certainly tried to be quite mindful of the girls while still being the same person that I am and the same person around Blake," she says.

But the others aren't impressed.

"At every single point of the evening, Jess was in a 30cm radius of Blake," Sam says.

"It's definitely interesting watching Jess in action – it's like she's oblivious. She's just so concerned on having that relationship with Blake, she just misses that point exactly and forgets she's on another group date."

The psychic continues her tour, trying to freak out the girls, but the only thing rattling them is shaped like a woman, with a name that rhymes with "Ressica".

At one stage, Zoe even makes her lantern go out on purpose to try and share with Blake, but Blake doesn't manage to tear his attention from Jess.

The whole situation causes lots of tension, and at the start of the cocktail party, everyone looks miserable. Except our friend "Ressica" of course.

Chantal jumps straight in to head for a chat with Blake, who asks what's going on with everyone.

"Little bit of damage control from yesterday's date. Basically the general feeling is that your decision is essentially in concrete because after yesterday's group date, yet again they were on a single date between yourself and Jess," Chantal says, despite the fact that she wasn't actually on said date.

Blake stands up for Jess, saying that she takes the initiative, which is why they spend the time together that they do.

"I don't know who it is but I would just love if people would focus less on what other people are doing and more on what they're doing," he says.

Rose ceremony time.

Osher pops in to let them all know Laurina is on her way to recovery, and that Blake gave her a rose, so she'll be coming back. Everyone's quite relieved, particularly now that Jess has taken her place as public enemy number one.

Sam gets the first rose, followed by Louise, then Zoe.

Blake leaves Jess there as one of the final ones standing, to try and prove to the others that he isn't madly in love with her.

Denial.

Finally, it's down to Chantal and newbie Lauren.

Lauren believes that there's a chance that - despite the fact she came in weeks after everyone else and has managed to score very limited airtime - she could possibly be staying on.

Say it with me now – denial.

So Lauren's gone, and we're back down to the originals. In the battle of old versus new, old certainly won out. If only the girls could figure out how to deal with that pesky Jess …
