But a drier reprieve expected over the weekend will not be much warmer, with sub-zero temperatures and more frost on the way.
As of 9am Friday, Tuggeranong had recorded 78.2mm since Monday night, while 42.6mm had fallen at Canberra Airport.

Canberra has received 5.6mm of rain and Tuggeranong 6.2mm in the past 24 hours, as of 9am Friday.
The likelihood of more showers was expected to drop off on Friday morning.
Weatherzone meteorologist James Casey said bursts of rain were not unheard of despite an El Nino being forecast for the country's south-east for much of winter.
El Nino events tend to cause high-pressure systems to sit over the country, making it harder for clouds to develop and bring rain. Warmer and drier than average conditions are expected to sweep through the capital region as a result, particularly from July.
"We're still experiencing drier than normal conditions but this particular system brought heavy falls," Mr Casey said.
"It doesn't rule out events such as what we're seeing at the moment."
Consequent slippery roads caused traffic chaos in Canberra this week. As of 8pm Thursday, there had been more than 43 crashes since rain began falling on Monday.
A man died in hospital after his car crashed into a tree in Farrer early Thursday morning, less than 24 hours after a 31-year-old man died in a crash on Erindale Drive on Wednesday afternoon.
This week's rain is forecast to dry up from Friday, with a clear but cold weekend in store.
"An increased pressure system is moving over the south-east, causing conditions to ease a bit but it is going to be very cold in Canberra over the weekend," Mr Casey said.
"A cold air mass ... is moving in and the increasing pressure system will bring in clear skies and light winds."
Friday, Saturday and Sunday were forecast to reach a maximum 13 degrees.
Overnight temperatures will dip to 4 degrees on Friday, zero on Saturday and minus 5 on Sunday along with severe frost.
"Getting up Sunday morning is going to be tough," Mr Casey said.
Further south-west, the Snowy Mountains are set for a small dusting of snow before the weekend, with a "couple of centimetres" predicted for Thursday night and Friday.
"A cold air mass is coming in and will allow temperatures to drop and a bit of snow to fall. The rain is going to leave as well," Mr Casey said.
Mr Casey said more rain was on the way next week.
"From Monday another system could bring some showers - Wednesday is looking to be the best time for showers," he said.
