A controlled burn at Black Mountain led to some stunning photography.

Hazard reduction burns on Black Mountain this week have moved many to capture spectacular images of smoke billowing over the capital.

An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokesperson said the haze visible on Wednesday morning was residual smoke from Tuesday's controlled burn.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Sean Carson said the smoke may linger above the city throughout the morning until predicted isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

"We've had winds out of the west for the last couple of days, but today the winds are coming out of the north-west so the smoke may blow a little closer towards the city," he said.
