Longing for a little disorder

My daughter's preschool is a wonderful place, far more alluring than school as I knew it a generation ago. It has toys, for starters. In fact, I was grappling with a jigsaw at preschool one morning last month when my little girl chastised me: ''Daddy, you're not allowed to play yet. We need to wash our hands.''
