The former independent Tasmanian senator - who suggested Mr Joyce resign in 2015 over his handling of the Shenhua coal mine - said a focus on the National leaders' affair with pregnant staffer Vikki Campion was preventing politicians from getting on with the job.

"They haven't been able to stop the tap from dripping and I think [Mr Joyce] has got some personal things he needs to fix up, and I think the only way he's going to be able to do that's from the backbench - I just don't think his mind's in the right place to be deputy prime minister at the moment," Ms Lambie said.

The leader of the Jacqui Lambie Network said the handling of Mr Joyce's affair by journalists and some politicians was "really quite disgusting", calling out the likely impact it was having on his wife, Natalie, and four daughters.

"There's a lot more stuff that's going on they could be talking about that's more important to the damn country than whacking this out - but this is the way their advisers handle things too," she said.

"Barnaby could've just walked on the backbench by now and it'd've been over three days ago. It's all scrambling now and it's getting ugly.

"And now people are saying 'what, you think affairs don't happen up in there in Canberra'. It's really out of control. What have we got - 50 shades of parli?"

Ms Lambie will return to Canberra this month to promote her upcoming book, Rebel With a Cause. It will be her first visit to the capital since resigning from Parliament in November.

Senator Lambie's realisation she was a dual citizen, and thus ineligible to sit in the Senate, is detailed in the final chapter of her candid memoir.

The "heavy-handed bitch slap" delivered by a "100-year old document that no one looks at" came as she was trying to figure out how to end her autobiography.

"Moral of the story is don't ever wish for a bang, because I can tell you it just blew it away," she said.

Ms Lambie said she looks forward to visiting Canberra - an "absolutely beautiful place" with "great eateries" - and one day returning to represent her island state.

"In the meantime I'll just wait on the sidelines and see what offers come up, do things short-term, and wait for another shot at the Senate seat down here in Tasmania," she said.

First, there's another election to win. The Jacqui Lambie Network has 12 candidates in the Tasmanian state election and the party aims to snag three seats, despite polling suggesting they could win none.

But Ms Lambie's memoir promises "you can't keep a bloody Lambie down" and she will dedicate the next several weeks to promoting her book, launching February 21, and promoting her party ahead of the Tasmanian election on March 3.

"I'm hoping the book and the state candidates go off with a bang," she said.
