For one thing, you're still getting used to your new surrounds. For another, you're exhausted.
But no one said being Prime Minister was easy. Which is why, after just two sleeps in the newly renovated Lodge, Malcolm Turnbull found himself welcoming the hordes of Australian of the Year finalists and their plus ones.
Mr Turnbull graciously told the group that the morning tea in their honour was "our housewarming party". But it was far from some takeaway super supremes and a slab of beer on the floor.
A marquee had been set up in the bright green grounds, with uniformed catering staff bearing trays of mini pavlovas, bite sized lamingtons and fruit kebabs.
It was here that the Prime Minister and his wife, Lucy, found themselves fielding the inevitable questions about what the new place is like.
"It's very large," the PM told Tasmania's Australian of the Year, conservationist Jane Hutchinson.
"[There are] lots of rooms and corridors."
But, if you have visions of Mr Turnbull rattling around cluelessly under the newly repaired roof, fear not. He also informed Hutchinson that he had found a spot to make tea.
On the other side of the room, Mrs Turnbull was discussing decorating matters with philanthropist (and art expert) Tim Fairfax, who is a nominee for Senior Australian of the Year.
She noted there was a Rosalie Gascoigne, among many other works by famous artists in The Lodge, which are also offset by period furnishings.
But it doesn't matter how much nice art is involved, moving is still moving.
As Mrs Turnbull noted: "Moving [house] is always a bit of a shock to the system, isn't it?"
