In a week where we learned RM Williams has left our shores to target townies, Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales' Australiana salon presentation of their Cooee Couture collection was a sharp shot of patriotism with a creative chaser.

In the ten years the creative duo have been designing together they have shown an appreciation for the diverse landscapes and vast colours seen in our CBDs and country towns and done so by reconnecting with colourful national identities. First with Jenny Kee and now another fashion pioneer, Linda Jackson.

Cooee Couture, according to Plunkett and Sales, is not about that tricky French term "couture", it was Romance Was Born's fashion shout out to Jackson's flamboyant style and a tribute to her groundbreaking label, Bush Couture, which folded in 1991. All three artists are more Dame Edna than Coco Chanel. Why take something off when you can add black cockatoo feathers or an Akubra in all colours of the rainbow?

The collection was showcased in the galleries of the 19^th Century Australian art at the Art Gallery of NSW amidst John Glover's brush strokes and Gemma Ward's ethereal presence in the crowd. Classical flautist Jane Rutter provided the soundtrack as a Ned Kelly homage, complete with copper patterned cigarette trousers and poncho, came down the catwalk followed by a Sea Urchin Bride. A dreadlocked Waratah Jillaroo, who looked like she'd gotten into a food dye fight a B&S Ball, carried a silk swag and trudged the harsh outback in stilettos by British designer Sophia Webster. That's the beauty of the savvy minds behind Romance Was Born, they know even cow girls shop online as well as in the co-op now.

The iconic theme of the final day of Fashion Week Australia continued with Ten Pieces, the label headed up by restaurateur Maurice Terzini and partner Lucy Hinckfuss who drained the pool at Icebergs and used Bondi Beach as the backdrop for the monochrome unisex collection which oozed casual cool and relaxed silhouettes.

Another familiar name also re-emerged thanks to high street label Cooper St. They have collaborated with Kirrily Johnston, two years after she closed her eponymous label after entering voluntary administration. It was a welcome Fashion Week return for Johnston who will now be introduced to a new, younger generation of customers thanks to Cooper St's modest price points. On a scale of one to Betty Draper, her apricot-hued gowns and metallic separates were effusively feminine but given a tough edge with cut-outs, bold prints and fresh necklines.

Evening wear and bridal designer Johanna Johnson, the woman who has dressed celebrities and A-listers all around the world, including Amal Clooney's bridesmaid, lawyer Jennifer Robinson, closed out the week with a show-stopping, sequin-encrusted showcase.
