Christopher Vincent, 27, was spotted by police hiding in a Macgregor park on Friday night, two hours after the alleged theft of $89.05 worth of petrol. He was arrested with the help of capsicum spray.

The Gordon resident was found with the keys to a black Toyota Camry in his pocket, the same car that had been stolen from a visitor parking area of a Phillip apartment complex in the seven hours after 11pm Tuesday, court documents said.

The documents said seven vehicles had their windows smashed and items of property stolen in the secure underground carpark at the Sky Plaza apartments on Corinna Street during this same period. One of the vehicles broken into, a Mitsibushi Triton ute, had keys for the Camry in its glove box.

The vehicle was found 100 metres from the arrest site, with bags and property in it suspected to have been stolen.

Vincent was charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent, making off without payment and other offences including driving while disqualified and a failure to appear at court.

He told police after he was arrested he had taken "bling", suspected to mean methamphetamine, in the 30 minutes prior to his arrest.

Magistrate Robert Cook said the defendant's failure to appear at court on four previous occasions and the apparent strength of the case warranted bail being refused.

The matter returns to court on July 27.
