ACT Labor yesterday announced a $3.3 million funding package over four years to support Canberra's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. From that funding they are promising $1.5 million to build Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-specific aged accommodation, with five two-bedroom units on one site.

Labor also pledged to provide $200,000 for a Canberra region business seminar focusing on Indigenous businesses, and scholarships to study childhood services and health.
There would be $880,000 for the CHANCES program to encourage further education or employment.
According to last year's census, Canberra is home to 5100 people identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
