ACT Chief Minister targets ICT and energy opportunities in trade mission to US

The trade mission will focus on developing business opportunities for the territory's renewable energy and ICT industries in San Diego and Silicon Valley.

ACT government representatives are also expected to meet Uber officials at their headquarters in San Francisco.

"The ACT government and the Canberra Business Chamber are working closely to deliver a detailed program in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Austin, Texas," Mr Barr said.

"Through our partnership with the Canberra Business Chamber, we have developed a comprehensive range of initiatives designed to grow their export capabilities and performance."

Mr Barr said the trade mission would focus on helping local businesses develop contacts in relevant industries, explore expansion opportunities and showcase their technologies.

"The program included targeted business-matching events, investor interactions and opportunities to boost entrepreneurial capabilities and pathways," he said.

Mr Barr said he expected trade missions to the US would become a regular activity.

Canberra Business Chamber chief executive Robyn Hendry said her team had been working on the trade mission full-time for nearly three months.

"We have known for a long time that we have services and skills that we can sell globally, despite having a small jurisdiction, and that we are in some areas at global standing," she said.

"We're also aware that in the ICT and renewable energy sectors, we have some competitive advantages and that is reflected in the support we have received from the federal government through Austrade."

Ms Hendry said companies had been asked to express their interest in joining the trade mission and the government had recruited several companies.

The trade mission to Singapore in November will have a tourism focus and will include the University of Canberra and Canberra Airport.
