A group of 19 new student ambassadors will be welcoming newcomers at the airport and various orientation week events, spruiking the benefits of studying in Canberra.

The group of tertiary and secondary students, being paid a casual wage by the ACT Government, is comprised of local, interstate and international students from 12 different countries worldwide.
Canberra educates around 44,000 higher education students each year and international education is the city's largest export generating $451 million to the economy in 2015.
So before the 2017 term begins the ambassadors group took part in an induction program and brushed up on social media policy before they began their work championing Canberra - which ranks within the top 20 student cities globally.
22-year-old Kezia Kartika left Bali for Canberra in 2015 to study a commerce degree at the Australian National University.
The second year student didn't arrange her study through an agency and had to hit the ground running, discover where to go, what to do, and where to meet people.
"I was pretty scared to arrive, I thought everyone in Australia would be so tall and I would be this tiny Asian," she laughed. "But everyone is so friendly here."
The part time disability swim teacher will give advice to students when they land at Canberra Airport from 8am-1pm on Tuesday and work in a team of eight other student ambassadors at the ANU.
It's hard to beat the Elvis Festival in his home town of Parkes, but International Relations and Science student Mackenzie Campbell said shifting south to Canberra was a great move.
The keen bicyclist said the best advice he could give to students coming here was point out all the great things to do.
"Canberra has that unfortunate stereotype of being boring, but I could send people in all sorts of directions," he said.
"People sit around in Sydney and think of Canberra 20 years ago but if they came here they'd realise it is changing. The food and cultural scene is great, I love live music, it's got that. It's a brilliant lifestyle here."
While the majority of the new hires will work with the government within their tertiary institutions, two ambassadors are finishing up their studies at ACT high schools.
Ginninderra College Year 12, Lucy Liu, said "most things were a challenge" when she arrived aged 17 from Shandong province, China without her family.
But sport had been a great ice-breaker. Since arriving she has got involved in softball, volleyball, hockey and more.
"I have tried a lot of things," she said. "For me it is the best way to meet people. Immediately you are in the team, you work together, people know you, you know them and there is a lot to talk about."
