The ACT's police force looks unlikely to follow moves in other Australian states to give frontline officers the option to remove their name badges to protect them from threats.

But the union that represents ACT Policing members believed the idea could be worth consideration in the current security climate.
The Australian Federal Police raised the terrorist threat level against police to "high", in line with national alert levels, on Tuesday.
It prompted NSW Police to clear the way this week for its officers to ditch their name badge for an identification number, after a rise in the number of members who were identified and threatened online and through social media.
An ACT Policing spokeswoman wouldn't comment on whether the agency might consider a similar option in the territory, saying only members' security was its highest priority.
"Practices and processes are constantly being reviewed to ensure the safety of our members," she said.
The spokeswoman acknowledged there had been concerns police could be identified online since social media was introduced.
"ACT Policing members are aware of their obligations and requirements when it comes to social media and advised how to protect themselves by setting their personal privacy settings to high.
"Members are also advised to not identify as law enforcement on their social media profiles and postings."
She said it wouldn't be appropriate to comment on whether any members of the force, or their families, had been threatened on social media or through personal phones in the past year.
Australian Federal Police Union chief executive Dennis Gellatly said he could see the need for a conversation about name badges and identification of officers amid a heightened terrorist alert.
"In today's environment it's probably a discussion worth having, but at this stage I'm not aware of any specific threats to any of our officers."
Standard badges for ACT Policing members include an officer's first and last names and rank. They are required to wear an identification number on their uniform's shoulder epaulettes.
Name badge requirements for territory police fall under the AFP's national uniform guidelines, and any changes would need to be approved by that agency's uniform committee.
Mr Gellatly said he didn't see a need for the current requirements to change, although he would continue to gauge the situation from union members' feedback.
A similar measure to the NSW Police policy was introduced for Queensland police after the state's bikie crackdown last year.
Police Commissioner Ian Stewart made name badges optional for all sworn officers from the rank of Constable to Senior Sergeant in October.
Officers could apply to wear a badge that displayed only their rank and registered officer number.
