The average taxable income in Forrest, Griffith, Manuka and Red Hill is $122,886, while the lowest average taxable income is in Gungahlin at $60,562.
New data from the Australian Tax Office has revealed the highest and lowest earning populations across the country for the 2015-16 financial year, and if you're a surgeon living in Forrest, you may be one of the most well-off people in Canberra (on average).
Surgeons, anaesthetists and internal medicine specialists are the top three highest-earning professions in the ACT, with medical professionals making up six of the top 10 highest-earning professionals.
The average taxable income for surgeons is $395,853, making it the highest-earning gig in the territory. Anaesthetists bring home $373,733 a year on average, with internal medicine specialists the last profession with an average income above $300,000 a year, with $308,571.
Psychiatrists, other medical practitioners and dental practitioners are also in the top 10, with average incomes of $222,550, $208,672 and $164,239 respectively.
While ACT surgeons, anaesthetists and internal medicine specialists have average annual incomes higher than their counterparts across the country, the highest paid postcode in the ACT is well below the 10 highest paid postcodes nationally, most of which are in affluent areas of Sydney and Melbourne. The ACT's lowest earning postcode covering Gungahlin still had a slightly higher average income than the nationwide average of $59,215.
Judicial and other legal professionals, financial dealers, corporate services managers, dental practitioners and chief executives and managing directors round out the top 10 list of high average incomes in the ACT.
The ACT's highest earning professions were largely the same as those at a national level, except that mining engineers and engineering managers (unsurprisingly) that are in the nation's top earners don't appear in the ACT top 10.
Of the 1200 occupations recorded across the country, women out-earned men in less than 100 of them, including receptionist, school teacher, beautician and goat farmer.
Canberrans took the title of the most generous in 2015-16, with 41 per cent of residents claiming a tax deduction for a charitable gift or donation.
