They are four women from very different walks of life, but on Tuesday evening they were all recognised for their contribution in enhancing the lives of women and girls in the ACT.
The ACT Women's Awards were held in honour of International Women's Day, a day when the diversity of women's economic, political and social achievements was recognised and celebrated, Minister for Women Yvette Berry said.
"We can take inspiration from and express gratitude to the women who have been nominated for this year's awards. These women are already working towards the creation of a city where all women and girls are treated with full equality," she said.
Domestic Violence Crisis Service executive director Mirjana Wilson received the ACT Violence Prevention Woman of the Year for her tireless work in the prevention of domestic and family violence.
"She has led her team into the changing landscape of domestic and family violence, rising to the challenge of the increased public profile afforded to DVCS and supporting staff to cope with increased workload and pressures," Ms Berry said.
"Mirjana does great work in this field, and this new award is very well deserved."
Entrepeneur and HerCanberra founder and director Amanda Whitley was named ACT Woman of the Year while Young Woman of the Year went to Rachael Stevens for improving the lives of young women and girls, particularly those impacted by eating disorders.
Krishna Sadhana was named ACT Senior Woman of the Year for her work in supporting women through difficult periods and creating inclusive communities.
