Canberra tourists who used Airbnb for accommodation during their stay in the capital have helped to generate more than $12 million for the ACT economy, a new report has found.

The report, published this week by Deloitte Access Economics, found that Airbnb gave Canberra's economy a $12.6 million boost during the 2015-16 financial year.
During that time period, the house-sharing website helped to support 99 full-time jobs in Canberra.
The findings of the report also showed 9200 bookings were made for Canberra houses or apartments during the financial year, with it estimating 20,000 people visiting the nation's capital for a combined total of 47,300 nights.
While the Canberra CBD was the most popular location for travellers, suburbs in Canberra's north dominated the top five most-booked places.
"The top five destination suburbs for guests within the ACT were Canberra, Belconnen, Macquarie and Macarthur," the report said.
"Although induced effects were not assessed in this report, they made locally significant in some regions, especially where tourism plays a significant role in the economy."
The average Airbnb guest in the ACT spent $241 a day during their stay in Canberra, with $20.4 million spent combined during the 2015-16 financial year.
Accommodation counted for 19 per cent of expenditure during the financial year, or $3.8 million, with the largest share of money spent coming from restaurants and cafes, making up 28 per cent of all expenses, or $5.8 million.
The report also found that $2.3 million was spent on transport, $3.7 million was spent on shopping, with $2.6 million being spent on entertainment and leisure activities.
Other findings in the Deloitte report showed the median income made by ACT residents offering their homes on the website was $4910.
Airbnb last year revealed figures that the number of listings in Canberra doubled during the 2016 calendar year.
While there were no specific figures for Canberra, 77 per cent of bookings on Airbnb for Australian cities excluding Sydney, Melbourne and Perth were for leisure, with 12 per cent of trips used for visiting friends or relatives, 7 per cent for business and 2 per cent for conferences or conventions.
Nationally, Airbnb helped to generate more than $1.6 billion for the Australian economy during the 2015-16 financial year, employing more than 14,000 full-time jobs.
NSW led the country for the number of Airbnb bookings in 2015-16, 289,600 bookings made for 742,800 guests.
Victoria had the second-highest number of bookings with 235,900, followed by Queensland with 133,300 bookings, WA with 62,100, Tasmania with 46,800 and SA with 24,400.
The ACT had the second-lowest number of bookings, with the Northern Territory rounding out the list with 4200 bookings.
