Mr Baird has come under increasing pressure over the ban in recent weeks, fuelled by protests by state National MPs, a plummeting approval rating, and an attempted resignation by the greyhound taskforce head.

ACT Labor plans to follow NSW's ban, and has repeatedly told the industry it has no future here.

The Canberra Liberals say they would not rush into a ban if elected.

Instead, they would review the local racing industry to see whether live baiting or cruel practices were occurring in Canberra.

On Tuesday night, Mr Coe criticised Mr Baird for his response to the issue.

"I think Premier Baird went too far in NSW on this issue," he said.

"I think there certainly were some instances that were pretty horrible, and we all saw the footage of that.

"But I'd much rather see the people who were the offenders be prosecuted and have the full weight of the law thrown at them, rather than ban the industry as a whole."

The comments were made at the Australian Christian Lobby's election forum, in answer to questions from the floor.

Labor minister Meegan Fitzharris was also present, and said the local greyhound industry could not survive while a ban was in effect in NSW.
