He said the recent merger of the ACT Chamber of Commerce and the Canberra Business Council was a very positive step for the Canberra business community but it meant he had been "worked out of a job".

“There is an executive chairman and interim CEO, and I was offered a senior management position, but I opted to pursue alternative career options,” Mr Blyth said.

Mr Blyth, who is originally from Adelaide, said the way the business community came together after the Sydney building fire was a proud moment in his time at the chamber.

He said he was "blessed" to have led the chamber and wished the new Canberra Business Chamber "all the best".

The two organisations came together in June in order to pool resources and consolidate the voice for business in the ACT.

At the June meeting Tony Henshaw was appointed as the transitional Executive Chair of the new group and Chris Faulks as the transitional CEO.

Mr Blyth said he thought he had made a difference in the way the Chamber operates, helping to make sure the Chamber itself was viable.

Mr Blyth said it was likely the new organisation would move into the Canberra Business Council offices on Northbourne Avenue, but this was a decision for the transitional board.

He said he would be staying in Canberra and looking for new opportunities to work between business and government.

“This has been the best job ever that I have had in my career, the moment I wake up I am thinking about business and I can’t get enough of talking to people who have that entrepreneurial spirit,” Mr Blyth said.

A new website is expected to be launched on October 1.
