The types of animals allowed to travel on ACTION buses are included in a new draft policy on the carriage of pets, large goods and bikes.

Canberrans can respond to the proposed changes over the next month, which include a new policy to clarify which animals are permitted to travel.
Territory and Municipal Services minister Shane Rattenbury said the drafted policy supported assistance animals travelling on ACTION buses in accordance with legislated requirements.
The policy would also allow the carriage of small, domestic animals as long as there was no impact on the safety and comfort of other passengers and the driver. The pet would need to be secured in an appropritate carrier.
"Allowing passengers to carry their pets on the bus will help improve access to public transport for pet owners who have no other means of transporting their animal and might need to take them to the vet," Mr Rattenbury said.
The policy around bulky goods that can be taken onboard the bus, such as suitcases and musical instruments, also revolves around safety.
It includes a list of factors drivers should consider when deciding whether to permit the carriage of the item, such as whether it blocks ailes or exits, whether the bus is close to carrying capacity and how easily the item can be carried on and off the bus.
The sorts of bicycles that can be mounted on bike racks, the maximum weight permitted and rules about how bikes can be mounted are outlined in a third draft policy.
Mr Rattenbury encouraged bus users to respond to the proposals before consultation closes on December 5.
"These sorts of policies make it easier for people to catch the bus and are part of the ACT Government's commitment to encouraging and supporting Canberrans to use public transport and providing sustainable and convenient alternatives to car use," he said.
