The Australian National University is the most searched-for of Australia's universities, and Canberra itself ranks 10th in the list of searched-for cities, a study by Google has found.

The study of Google searches of study abroad options by American students mainly confirmed their anglophilia, with London, Oxford, and Cambridge coming in as the most searched-for cities.
Indeed, the most popular term of all generic searches was "Universities in London" when they looked up options for international study, with the University of Oxford the most googled foreign higher education institution .
But Australian cities otherwise did well in the survey with Melbourne coming in at fifth, Sydney popping up at seventh and Canberra showing up as tenth most popular in searches.
The Australian National University was also the tenth most searched university by US students last year, making it the most searched among Australian unis.
A University of Melbourne spokesman said the university worked to make their institution more visible in online searches.
"Lots of factors contribute to how Google perceives the university, and we certainly try to optimise for those that we can," he told The Age.
There are only four Asian cities in the top 20 destinations searched for and only three Asian universities in the top 30 most searched for institutions.
