Police charges against a 17-year-old youth who randomly attacked a group of people outside their home in Palmerston on March 15 have been upgraded to murder after one of the victims died in hospital this week.

An 82-year-old man died earlier this week after suffering critical injuries in the attack.
The boy has also been charged with threatening to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and obstruction of a territory official.
About 10.15pm on Friday, March 15, police were called to an assault on Tamborine Close, Palmerston following reports the youth had attacked the people in their vehicle as they arrived at their home.
The youth, who was wearing only track pants with no shirt or shoes, had to be physically restrained by police.
Three victims and the youth were transported to hospital.

The boy will next appear in the Children's Court on April 8.
