The operators of Canberra's dockless share bikes want to establish a permanent presence in the capital - with triple the number of vehicles - when their six-month trial ends early next year.

Airbike chief executive Angus McDonald said interest in the service had "snowballed" since its July 31 launch.
More than 7000 trips have been recorded by about 6300 signed-up users as of early November.
Mr McDonald said he was now in talks with the ACT government to continue the service beyond the trial's end date.
He said he wanted to triple the size of Airbike's 200-fleet, hoping to create a network that could guarantee potential users a bike whenever they needed it.
"We think 600 bikes is about the right number," Mr McDonald said. "We survey users and the number one barrier to using Airbike is that there aren't enough bikes, so that when you needed one it was not there."
The bikes, which are "unlocked" using a mobile phone application, have been limited to the city, the Australian National University and parliamentary triangle during the trial.
Mr McDonald said he was in discussions with the University of Canberra and the Department of Human Services about setting up bike share services at their sites in Bruce and Greenway respectively.
But he said there was no intention of expanding the operation to residential areas, suggesting that was one of the mistakes made by troubled-plagued operators in Sydney and Melbourne.
A number of businesses - including oBike - abandoned their Australian operations this year after authorities cracked down on bikes being vandalised and abandoned.

Images of bikes dumped in lakes, stuck in trees and strewn along footpaths were commonplace in Sydney and Melbourne, angering local councils and residents.
Mr McDonald said 15 bikes had been damaged since the start of the trial, including one beyond repair.
But he said Canberrans had largely been "great to work with".
That view was supported by Transport Canberra's acting planning and policy director Geoffrey Davidson, who last week told an ACT Assembly annual report hearing that the local community had embraced Airbike's scheme.
"We've had some really encouraging results," Mr Davidson said. "By and large the community has really valued the service and we have not seen the kinds of issues seen in Melbourne and Sydney."
At the hearing, Greens MLA Caroline Le Couteur questioned the popularity of the service given the high number of signed-up users who appeared to have taken either one, or no, trips.
Airbike offers the the first three rides for free, with subsequent 30 minute trips costing $1.30.
Transport Canberra deputy director general, Duncan Edgehill, said it was possible that some people had created accounts in anticipation of using Airbikes during summer.
Mr McDonald said a number of people rode Airbike's regularly, including one user who had recorded 80 trips during the trial.
An ACT government spokeswoman this week told Fairfax Media that Airbike's trial had been positive, both in terms of usage and feedback.
The spokeswoman said share bikes offered a genuine alternative to cars, particularly for the first and last stretch of commuter trips.
She said a decision to allow a permanent dockless bike share service would be considered in the final assessment of the trial.
