Well, not quite, but it could be after this bride and groom were spotted rowing to their ceremony in the middle of Lake Burley Griffin on the weekend.

Bride Aina Studer and groom Eder Silva exchanged vows on Aspen Island on Sunday afternoon, but it was their entrance in an Intrepid Urban Adventures kayak that had guests cheering, laughing and filming on their mobile phones.

Eder paddled his bride to Aspen Island to surprise guests who had travelled from as far as Brazil, Switzerland and France for the nuptials.

"Our guests all walked onto the island and were assuming we'd do the same," Eder said.

"But they saw us on the horizon and just started clapping."

Wearing a vintage dress she found on Asos Marketplace - "I just wanted something simple, really elegant" - and high heels, Aina clutched her flowers as Eder paddled behind her.

"We'd been on kayaks and on paddle boats before on the lake and we decided we wanted to have our wedding just near the lake," Aina said.

"We got inspired by that idea and just wanted a different way of getting to the wedding other than a fancy car or a helicopter.

"We had a pop-up reception on Aspen Island as well. It was so lovely."

Was Aina terrified of capsizing on the way to her big event?

"Graham [from Intrepid Urban Adventures] assured us that wouldn't happen," she laughed.

"But I had heels on so Eder had to do all of the work.

"We were more terrified of the rain to be honest, but it only came down a little bit while we were cutting the cake."

The couple, who met studying English at ANU six years ago and became engaged last December, said they always dreamed of having "a truly Canberra wedding".

With Telstra Tower in the foreground, the National Library in the background and the Carillon playing 30 minutes of music during their reception, it sounds like they got exactly what they wished for.
