"Canberra in a Can'' is the latest pop-up promotion by VisitCanberra, an enticement for interstaters to chug down a "refreshing experience'' in the national capital.
Each of the cans contains not soft drink but information, tickets, discounts and offers for a short break in Canberra.
There are five "flavours":
- Culture Vulture: drinking in the galleries, museums and art scene of Canberra
- Horizon Broadener: no artificial flavours or colours - just mother nature in all its glory
- Taste Chaser: for those with a taste for the finer things in life, foodie-orientated
- Eventalicious: quenches the thirst of those after fun festivals and exciting exhibitions
- Family Funster: all the ingredients for a wonderful weekend for the family.
Each of the experiences is curated, with each flavour designated appropriate activities, events and accommodation. So someone choosing a Taste Chaser can may be directed to a visit to a vineyard, boutique accommodation and the annual truffle festival.
The vending machines are in areas of high foot traffic for four days. They started with Wynyard Park in Sydney on Friday and continue with Centenary Square in Parramatta on Saturday, Federation Square in Melbourne on Wednesday and the State Library of Melbourne on Thursday.
The campaign includes "significant collaboration with the local tourism industry by providing an opportunity to get Canberra tourism offerings into the hands of people in key target markets".
VisitCanberra says the Canberra in a Can promotion had been planned to encourage visitation in the winter months, traditionally a quieter time for tourism in the national capital.
