The Canberra Liberals have resisted calls to sign a tripartisan agreement in support of marriage equality, with leader Alistair Coe accusing the Barr government of trying to divide the assembly.

On Wednesday Labor backbencher Michael Pettersson moved a motion calling on the leaders of three parties to sign a motion in support of same-sex marriage and forward it onto Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull.
The motion also called on the three parties to attend LGBTIQ events across the city to show their support of the community.
Each ACT Labor member spoke in support of the motion, as well as Greens crossbencher Caroline Le Couteur.
"I hear many people say they've had enough of this debate, they've had enough of talking about this issue," ACT Chief minister Andrew Barr said.
"Well I agree with them, I've had enough of talking about it as well but what I've had more than enough of is the discrimination and the situation that is represented through the political gridlock we see in this country at this time when it is clear that the majority of parliamentarians, comprising members of all political parties represented in the Australian parliament, support this change."
But Mr Coe argued the motion was designed to smoke out marriage equality supporters within the Liberal party to "drive a wedge" between members.
"It's quite inconsistent that you have a situation where you have those opposite advocating for a free vote up in the Commonwealth parliament, meanwhile trying to bind myself into doing something here," Mr Coe said.
"We've had this debate on a number of occasions and it's well known there are mixed views on this in the opposition on this issue.
"It's worth noting Labor blocked the vote [on the plebiscite in the federal parliament] because they didn't want to have a divisive debate, however here in the assembly of course Labor have no qualms in trying to capitalise on any division that may or may not happen here, in effect trying to use this issue as a political football."
The motion was passed with the support of the Greens.
The government will draft a a letter to the Prime Minister detailing the motion with a section for the leader of each party to sign.
If Mr Coe does not sign the letter, the letter will go to the prime minister with his section blank.
No other Canberra Liberal spoke about the motion in the chamber, but Mark Parton later tweeted his view that marriage equality was "inevitable".
Former Liberal leader Jeremy Hansen and currently deputy leader Nicole Lawder have also previously spoken about their support of marriage equality, but, like Mr Coe, believed it was a federal issue.
The debate came one day after the ACT's parliament voted to automatically recognise interstate and overseas same-sex unions in the ACT.
