The clean energy sector will finally face certainty after the parliament passed legislation to slash the renewable energy target.
A bipartisan deal - agreed to last month after a lengthy political stalemate that hamstrung the clean energy sector - will slash the target from 41,000 gigawatt hours to 33,000.
Legislation inscribing that deal passed the Senate during an extended sitting late into Tuesday night.

Designing and 3D printing an object sounds like a thing of technological fantasy for most of us, but it's become just another day in the classroom for some Canberra school students.
Harrison School, Lanyon High, Lyneham Primary, Lyneham High, Bonython Primary and Aranda Primary were the first in Australia to take part in the education program run by the Australian 3D Manufacturing Association (A3DMA) over the past year, with the technology forming part of their syllabus.

While most of us were fast asleep early on Tuesday morning Ian Williams was braving -2 degrees to capture the stunning red glow of the Aurora Australis.
The warm light display danced across cool Australian skies in the early hours.
Mr Williams was up at 3am awaiting a glimpse of the light show above Mount Tennent, after tracking its estimated arrival via the Aurora Service website.
