It's Thursday, which means we're inching closer to the weekend. If you missed yesterday's Canberra Now, you might not have seen that there's a whole range of great stuff happening - from the lantern festival at Lake Burley Griffin, to the return of the Royal Canberra Show from Friday. Laura is prescribed cannabis, but she still relies on the black market
Laura Byrant was full of hope when she was finally approved for access to medical cannabis in Sydney. But when she moved back to Canberra, she found it impossible to get a hold of cannabis oil, which was the only treatment that relieved her debilitating pain.
The ACT Greens want to increase the amount of cannabis someone would be allowed to possess under Labor's proposed bill, in the hopes that it would also lead to easier access for patients.
Health reporter Daniella White looked at how amendments to the proposed bill, which is currently being discussed, could help and hinder medical cannabis patients in the territory.
Overcrowding at Canberra jail could lead to human rights breaches
A review of the treatment of remandees in the Alexander Maconochie Centre, tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, is only the latest to paint a damning picture of the prison.
One of the findings of the review was that prisoner numbers were routinely exceeding 100 per cent capacity but Corrective Services Minister Shane Rattenbury has rejected calls to expand.

On another occasion, he spent 10 days at a church-run camp with an untreated broken arm and no pain relief, and was told to stop whinging when he found it hard to move in his wheelchair.
