He has pulled further ahead of his breakfast slot radio rivals six months after becoming its early morning radio host and TV news anchor on the evening bulletin.
The ABC's lead among ACT breakfast shows grew more than four times the station's nearest rival Mix 106.3 in the latest GfK Radio Ratings Survey covering March to June.
The result will please the national broadcaster, which in April last year found its grip on the breakfast radio slot slipping as Mix 106.3 gained ground, and later in 2016 was booted off top spot in overall ratings by its commercial rivals.
Mix 106.3's share in the breakfast slot with Kristen and Wilko grew slightly to 16 per cent, while the ABC held nearly one-fifth of the early morning audience.
Bourchier started his new dual role in January - behind the mike in the ABC Radio Canberra studio at 5.30am for the breakfast shift and then that evening in front of the cameras to present the news at 7pm.
His dominance in the early morning pushed the ABC ahead in overall weekday ratings at 13.6 per cent of audience share, but it stayed in third place behind first-placed Mix 106.3 on 19.5 per cent and Hit 104.7 on nearly 17 per cent.
ABC Canberra will count the quarter a success after its ratings grew across the late morning, afternoon and drive slots, a turnaround on last year's drop.
The ABC had a wafer-thin edge in early 2016 but was beaten back to third overall at 14.5 per cent late last year, when results showed the broadcaster's audience share was in decline across nearly all the timeslots surveyed by GfK.
Behind the ABC in the breakfast slot, commercial players are battling for second place but Mix 106.3 wrested back the spot from Hit 104.7, climbing 0.4 to 16 per cent.
Mix 106.3's Karina kept her hold on the morning slot lead, and the station's afternoon show with Pat stayed well ahead of Hit 104.7's formula, although it slipped 1.4 percentage points.
Despite a 1 percentage point ratings fall, Mix had Canberra's largest weekday radio audience at 20.6 per cent of listeners, holding its lead after pulling ahead of Hit 104.7, which last quarter had 17.9 per cent.
Mix 106.3 said its departing breakfast co-host Rod Cuddihy left Kristen and newcomer Wilko a solid platform to continue leading the slot among commercial stations.
Among younger listeners Hit 104.7 remained the station of choice, leading in the 10-17 age group (40.1 per cent), and among those aged 18-24 (31.3 per cent) and 25-39 (33.1 per cent) while Mix 106.3 led among people tuning in aged 40-54 at 30.7 per cent.
