Christmas has come early for thousands of students offered early places at Canberra universities ahead of the 2018 academic year.

Franklin 18-year-old Soumil Sharma was one of 2904 people to receive an early offer to study at the University of Canberra, on Thursday accepting an invitation to become part of the institution's first Bachelor of Vision Science cohort.
"I'm pretty excited," the aspiring optometrist and former Dickson College student said.
"From what I've heard [university is] meant to be a bit more chill than college but it's something that I want to study so I'm excited for the the future holds."
Nursing, sport and exercise science, psychology, pharmacy and architecture were so far the University of Canberra's most popular undergraduate courses for 2018, according to a spokesman.
December offers increased 44 per cent on the 724 made last year.
"The significant increase in offers made to date this year shows that people like what we have to offer and want the University of Canberra to play a part in shaping their future," acting vice-chancellor Vicki Williams said.
"We're delighted to be welcoming more students to our university and we're looking forward to providing them with a unique and memorable study experience."
The Australian National University has offered places to 2951 new students for next year, including 2375 undergraduates. The total figure represents a 12 per cent increase on last year's December offers.
The university's most popular courses were flexible double degrees combining art, social sciences, business and science.
"I'm delighted to welcome our new students for 2018 and congratulate all of those who have been made an early offer to join the ANU community," ANU vice-chancellor Brian Schmidt said.
"It's ... great to see demand remains strong for places to study at ANU, with our unique flexible double degrees being particularly popular with new students.
"Our new Bachelor of Health Science program, being offered for the first time in 2018, is also proving popular, with 157 first preferences and more than 400 total preferences."
The most popular courses so far at the Australian Catholic University Canberra campus are related to nursing, education and social work.
Further university offers will be made in January and throughout the year.
The University of Canberra's ATAR requirements for school leavers applying for its top five undergraduate degrees:
- Bachelor of Nursing: 67
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy: 89
- Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science: 60
- Bachelor of Arts: 60
- Bachelor of Primary Education 60
The Australian National University's ATAR requirements for a guaranteed place in its top five undergraduate degrees:
- Flexible Double Degree: Arts, Social Science, Science and Business: 80
- Flexible Double Degree Law: 98
- Bachelor of Arts: 80
- Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics: 96
- Bachelor of Science: 80
- Bachelor of Health Science: 90
