The ACT government has warned Canberrans to expect delays across the city on the weekend as large crowds flock to the 30th anniversary of Summernats in Exhibition Park in Canberra.

From Thursday 5 January to Sunday 8 January, road closures and detours would be in effect, as well as alcohol free zones and extra vigilant parking officers.
Transport Canberra's traffic and safety senior manager Rifaat Shoukrallah said they had been working with the AFP, EPIC, Summernats organisers and residents in Watson and Downer.
"We want to see people enjoy this event in safety while also taking into consideration nearby residents and road users," he said.
The changes were expected mainly around EPIC, with more details to come on arrangements for the Summernats City Cruise.
Closures
- Stirling Avenue will be closed between Northbourne Avenue and Aspinall Street in Watson.
Changed traffic arrangements
- Left turns will be prohibited from Flemington Road onto Randwick Road during peak times.
- The speed limit on Flemington Road between Federal Highway and Sandford Street will be reduced to 40km/h.
Parking
- Additional parking will be available north of Exhibition Park in Canberra, with access via Sandford Street or Old Well Station Road.
- 'No Parking' and 'No Camping' signs will be erected on both sides of Northbourne Avenue and the Federal Highway.
- Illegal parking and verge parking will be enforced by parking officers.
Delays and detours
- Delays are expected on Northbourne Avenue and the Federal Highway near Exhibition Park in Canberra.
- Motorists are encouraged to use Antill Street and Wakefield Avenue as alternative routes.
- Motorists travelling to and from Gungahlin are advised to use Gungahlin Drive.
Alcohol free zones
- Aspinall Street, Morisset Road, Sterling Avenue, Northbourne Avenue, Lonsdale Street and the Federal Highway within the ACT in both directions will be alcohol free zones.
- Short sections of Old Wells Station Road, Flemington Road and Phillip Avenue will be alcohol free zones.
