Some of Canberra's fittest are heading along to Wollongong next weekend to compete in the Crossfit Pacific Regional Games.

The team from CrossFit 2600 in Kingston has been training hard, and was excited to learn they'd made the cut.
"We qualified 20th out of 340 teams from our region in the open, then add in a further 90 teams from Asia and just making it this far is a significant achievement," says team captain and CrossFit 2600 co-owner Kai Brownlie.
Along with Kai, Megan Smith, Mel Cupitt, Kat Baker, Neil Punyer, Ross Chilton, Natalie Wilson and Luke Oldfield make up team Crossfit 2600. Three males and three females will compete at the competition, with the other two training with the group in case of any injuries.
Over the three day event, the team will compete in seven workouts which include a mix of running, rope climbs, pull ups and Olympic weightlifting– enough to make even the fittest person's eyes water.
In their division, they will compete against teams from the rest of the country, and as far away as Japan, Korea and even Siberia.
While many people are terrified at the thought of CrossFit, the team is made up of everyone from ex-athletes to construction workers, and a midwife who puts many of us to shame.
"Megan's a midwife. She's been to world games twice and she's got five daughters. So she's an amazing female and an amazing athlete," says Kai.
Out of all of the competitors next week, there are five spots to represent Australia at the World CrossFit Games in July in California.
"We're aiming for top five," says Kai. "We've got two experienced people and four relatively new to the team so it's open slather."
Kai said they're looking forward to competing in the warmer weather of Wollongong, and maybe even capitalising on the slight altitude training advantage Canberra offers.
"Any advantage we can take we'll take it."
