Canberrans are the most likely to be stung with high petrol prices this Christmas, despite prices easing across the rest of the country.

That's according to analysis by comparethemarket.com.au, which analysed the average cents per litre of unleaded petrol from September 17 to December 17 across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra.
Canberra's average price over the last quarter the highest of the major capital cities at 137.6 cents per litre.
While the price of unleaded petrol at most stations in Canberra Friday on afternoon was about 149 cents per litre, there were some stations with prices 137 cents or below.
Canberrans looking to ease the pain at the pump should head to Metro Petroleum in Fyshwick, Costco Majura Park (only available for members), Caltex Canberra Airport, or Woolworths Caltex Majura Park.
Spokesperson Abigail Koch said while prices in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne are on their way down, they are expected to remain high in Canberra.
Petrol prices rose two weeks ago by four cents and may stay that way for a while.
"Even with petrol prices on their way down, the average price of petrol is still sitting at 134.2cpl over the last quarter the highest of any quarter this year, and 11.5 cents per litre higher than the last quarter (24 June to 24 September)," she said.
"I would strongly advise motorists to keep checking prices before filling up this Christmas."
"Prices in the major cities, excluding Canberra, run in cycles that are variable depending on the city.
"Sydney and Brisbane cycles peaked one week ago, while Melbourne prices only peaked at the end of last week and are on the way back down.
"As prices in these cities are not expected to peak again until around New Year's Eve, my suggestion is to hold off filling up the tank in full until as close to Christmas as possible."
