The station, which reads news and other information to the print-handicapped in Canberra and surrounding regions, will broadcast National Disability Insurance Scheme announcements so it can retain its funding under the new model.

It also received a $50,000 business investment grant from the ACT Government.

In February it was revealed the station would lose a quarter of its funding in July due to disability funding changes.

The transition of funding from Disability ACT to the user-pays NDIS meant organisations that provided free services to people with disabilities, like the station, were left with a question mark hanging over their heads.

The station operates on about $160,000 a year with only two paid staff and more than 120 volunteers.

Radio 1RPH president Lorraine Litster said at the time the $38,000 shortfall could have forced the station to rein in its broadcasting signal.

ACT disability minister Dr Chris Bourke said the territory government and the National Disability Insurance Agency were working with the station to redevelop its business model so it could survive in the future.

"It is fantastic news that this well respected local organisation is able to deliver information about the NDIS to our community," Dr Bourke said.

"One of the best ways to ensure people with disability in Canberra can continue to keep abreast of developments in the NDIS is to use specialist radio stations such as Radio 1RPH."

Robert Altamore, vice-president of the station's management committee, said while the funding would only last a year, they were determined to make the most it.

"We're very happy to have secured transitional funding for at least another year. We don't know what the future holds but we're going to make the best of the year we've been given and look at ways to keep the service operating," he said.
