Canberra motorcyclists will be allowed to keep lane filtering past this month until an evaluation of a two-year trial into the practice is completed.

Motorcyclists or scooter riders have been allowed to move between stopped or slow traffic in strict conditions since the trial began in February 2015.
ACT road safety minister Shane Rattenbury said the trial would continue while the government evaluated whether it should become legal long-term.
That evaluation should be published by mid-year, Mr Rattenbury said.
"I value the feedback we have received so far from the community. In addition to the two surveys, crash data from before and after the trial, particularly side-swipe collisions and same direction crashes at intersections, will also be examined," Mr Rattenbury said.
The practice has been legal on NSW roads for more than two years.
When the trial was first floated in 2014, then Attorney General Simon Corbell said lane filtering allowed motorcyclists to move "quickly and safely away from congested areas of traffic".
"Lane filtering is not the same as lane splitting which is done at higher speeds and increases the unpredictability of motorcyclist movements for other road users," he said.
The most recent survey found that, while the proportion of Canberrans who disagreed with lane filtering has fallen, around half of those surveyed still felt lane filtering was unsafe.
Sixty-nine per cent supported the practice as a road safety measure compared to 59 per cent before the trial began.
However, just under two-fifths surveyed thought lane filtering improved the safety of motorcyclists .
Vice-president of the Motorcycle Riders Association of the ACT Jen Woods said she fully expected lane filtering to become legal later this year.
"It simply works, it makes sense," Ms Woods said.
She said the trial had raised the profile of motorcyclists and scooter riders on the road and encouraged drivers to be on the lookout for them.
"We found that feedback from the general community has been very positive toward this initiative," Ms Woods said.
"I think there was a bit of a push back in the beginning but we're certainly not seeing that anymore. There's certainly room for riders to move and they're moving slowly.
"The rules are fairly clear, it must be in slowing or stopped traffic under 30km/h and most other road users are reacting well to that, and of course we expect our riders to be careful and taking care as well. I think people are more relaxed about it now."
