Craft ACT has joined forces with the Corning Museum of Glass in the US to create this exhibition, curated by Mel George, in which artists were asked to reinterpret and contemporise an object from the Corning Museum of Glass Collection. Also opening is Code X: Contemporary Book Binding, featuring work by 40 international bookbinders paired with work by Australia's established bookbinders and "rising stars" to change perceptions about the craft of bookbinding and to demonstrate how traditional craft skills can be used to produce dynamic contemporary works. The exhibition has been curated by Canberran book binder Terence Uren. in association with the 2017 Australian National Conference of Bookbinders, to be held in Canberra on March 25 to 27. Both exhibitions will be opened on Thursday, February 9 at 6pm by the commissioner for international engagement for the ACT government, Brendan Smyth. All welcome. The exhibitions will run until March 25.

Pathways in our Lives
Margaret Carr and Isla Patterson have been friends more nearly 40 years. Their exhibition Pathways in our Lives opening on Saturday at Bungendore Fine Art Gallery showcases work depicting scenes that are uniquely Australian, including landscapes, animals and birdlife in several media. The exhibition runs until the end of March.
Art for Epilepsy
Isla Patterson is also taking part in the Art for Epilepsy online auction with more than 150 other artists to raise money for people living with epilepsy. Last year's inaugural auction raised about $20,000. The auction will begin on February 14 at 9am and conclude at 9pm on March 26 at ArtForEpilepsy.com.au.
The Hadley's Art Prize
Entries have opened in The Hadley's Art Prize, Hobart, with $100,000 offered to the winner. The 2017 theme is History and Place for the best portrayal of the Australian landscape which acknowledges the past This acquisitive landscape competition is open to Australian artists, with a panel of three national art specialists – Dr Julie Gough, Roger Butler and Lisa Slade – as judges. The venue is Hobart's Hadley's Orient Hotel. Entries close on April 30. The winner will be announced on July 14. Website: hadleysartprize.com.au.
David Flanagan and Anja Longhead
PhotoAccess is showing, in the Huw Davies Gallery, two new exhibitions exploring place and identity. Move up to the Views by David Flanagan showcases a series of large format landscape images exploring the outer areas of Northern Canberra that are destined to become new suburbs. Finlandia Hymn is a new body of work by emerging artist Anja Loughhead. It's a series of documented performance pieces examining the photographic representation of Finland's cultural identity and the deep-seated relationship to the landscape. The exhibitions continue until February 26.
I see Re(a)d
ANCA launches its 2017 exhibition program on Wednesday with a group exhibition featuring the works of Sophie Bishop, Mimi Fairall, Michelle Hallinan, Kelly Hayes, Jess Higgins, Rebecca Setnicar and Diana White.The artists are all recent graduates from the ANU School of Art Printmedia and Drawing Workshop and have developed individual and diverse practices through the ongoing support of their Canberra based, female collective. While the collective is a united force who continually exchange ideas, processes and techniques, each artist has developed an investigation into a specific theme - the body, the landscape, the political and technological, all via 2D mediums. I see Re(a)d connects each artist's practice through the colour red and its different re(a)dings. Red is associated with energy, war, danger, power and determination as well as passion and love. The exhibition, containing prints, drawings, paintings and mixed-media works, will be opened at 6pm. All welcome.
Make Light Of It
Suzanne Moss's new exhibition - the first at Nancy Sever Gallery for 2017 - reflects her concern with diagrams and luminous natural phenomena as well as philosphical inquiry. It's on until March 5.
Free Bollywood dance classes
If you've wanted to try Bollywood dancing, now's your chance to experience it at no charge with the Canberra School of Bollywood Dancing. There will be free trial classes on Tuesday at Erindale Active Leisure Centre at 7.30pm and Wednesday at Belconnen Arts Centre at 8pm. Wear comfortable clothes, bring a bottle of water and note that dancing is done in bare feet or dance sneakers.
