Now on at M16 Artspace are three exhibitions, In As It Is in Gallery 1, Tess Horwitz, Caroline Huf, Janet Long use video, objects and images to explore themes of impermanence and failure as inevitable, both in art and life. Damon Craig's White Lies, Grey Heart in Gallery 2 is a mixed media exhibition – including audio, found objects and wall art - reflecting the period he spent as a naval serviceman in the Middle East and his time after deployment when he suffered post-traumatic stress disorder. On Friday, October 7 VERVE will bring together more than 30 local emerging artists in fields such as fashion, music, visual and performing arts, photography and music for the fifth 2016 showcase run by RAW: natural born artists. Press Print is an exhibition bringing together Megalo's Emerging Artist Support Scheme residents and emerging artists invited to participate in Megalo's Press Print program. This year artist Rose Townsend was invited to curate an exhibition of emerging artists' work. This project explores migration, citizenship, identity, and the refugee experience through performing and visual arts. The project has been developed through Tuggeranong Arts Centre's Rohallah, a collaboration between Little Dove Theatre Art director Chenoeh Miller and Fresh Funk, is a dance piece about a boy growing up in a country shaped by conflict. Canberra artists Kylie Fogarty, Carole Osmotherly and Judy Witherdin are exhibiting together once again, this time at the Woolshed Gallery at Strathnairn Arts, Holt in Keeping Company. In this new body of works on paper, Fogarty has been inspired by the early emergence of spring. while glass artist Witherdin has created new works with fused glass inspired by traditional Indigenous designs and English Crop Circles and Osmotherly has produced 15 works of painting on silk, demonstrating different techniques using silk dyes and hot wax. The group show runs until October 16.

Charlie Sheard - Paintings and Watercolours is a survey exhibition curated by Terence Maloon of an artist who has been exhibiting for 35 years and whose work has recently taken a turn into the fantastical. Remembering Doug Alexander (1945-1981), curated by Meredith Hinchliffe, provides an overview of the ceramic artist who, during the last five years of his life, was resident potter at Cuppacumbalong Craft Centre, Tharwa. The Sydney Lawyers Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Jones, will perform a free concert in the Great Hall of the High Court of Australia on Sunday, October 9, at 1.30pm. The program will include the premiere of Intermezzo by Frederic Septimus Kelly, an Australian composer, pianist and Olympic gold medallist who died 100 years ago on the Western Front. Three ACT artists have been selected to take part in the Artisans in the Gardens exhibition at the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney for nine days from October 15. Nellie Anderson from Braddon, Melinda Brouwer from Ainslie and Annie Storey from Kambah will be among 43 artisans exhibiting from around the country in what's described as a celebration of the natural world. Artist Hannah Gason, who graduated from the ANU School of Art with a First Class Honours Degree and University medal in 2015 will open her first solo exhibition, Traces, at Bungendore's Suki & Hugh Gallery on Saturday, October 8. An opening reception will be held from 3pm to 5pm. She arranges small glass fragments to create abstract imagery inspired by her experience in the Australian landscape and will also use the Bungendore exhibition to launch her design label t.u.l.e.
