A cool change has given firefighters grappling with a bushfire burning in mountainous terrain south of Canberra a welcome reprieve.

A temperature dive of more than 10 degrees on Monday gave firefighters battling the 42-hectare fire at Mount Clear a much-needed break following the most dangerous fire day so far this summer.
Sunday's soaring temperatures and dangerous winds threatened to push the fire in the Namadgi National Park past containment lines onto the Monaro Highway.
But firefighters working in the rough terrain managed to bring the fire under control over the weekend.
The fire did not grow overnight on Monday, an ACT Emergency Services spokeswoman said.
"A little bit of rain on the fireground has assisted crews who are still out doing patrols," she said.
The fire was sparked by lightning last Wednesday evening.
Weather conditions are expected to remain cool and cloudy for the remainder of the week.
Extreme conditions across south-eastern Australia kept emergency services occupied for much of the weekend.
A small fire also burnt through grassland on Mount Taylor in Canberra's south about 1pm on Sunday.
Residents of Pearce, Torrens and Kambah were issued with a watch and act alert, but that was soon downgraded.
Fire crews from NSW and the ACT also contained a fire that burnt out 12 hectares of grassland at Wallaroo in the Yass Valley on Sunday morning.
The fire knocked out power across the Yass Valley for several hours.
The drop in temperatures is expected to assist firefighters battling several large fires raging across the NSW south coast.
A 2400 hectare bushfire was burning out of control near Eden on Monday.
Lightning strikes around the Victorian border on Saturday ignited the fire in Yambulla State Forest, about 17km south-west of Towamba.
Imlay Road will remain closed until further notice.
A bushfire in the Kosciuszko National Park has also closed Alpine Way, between Khancoban and Dead Horse Gap.
The 16-hectare blaze on Granuaille Mountain is being controlled.
Two bushfires are also burning in the Dampier State Forest, north of Narooma.
One fire, which burnt out 21 hectares, is under control but a second fire to the south-west is yet to be controlled.
