Corin Forest sets its sights on interstate market

According to general manager Evan Carter, some interstate families were beginning to discover the shorter drive and cheaper prices on offer at the ACT's only commercial ski field.

While far smaller in scale than the big NSW resorts, Mr Carter said new features like the introduction of night skiing was helping to drive a resurgence in the busy school holiday period.

"We had a lot of cold weather leading up to the school holidays which was fantastic; we were able to get so much snow down, which means that the people from Canberra and also interstate are coming up and really enjoying themselves," Mr Carter said.

"The history of Corin was a ski resort, but after the bushfires it slowed down. Now we have come and developed the resort and the facilities which are now more accommodating for people".

The resort has also focussed on expanding their beginner's area for those wanting to learn how to ski or snowboard.

Mr Carter said they had introduced night skiing two weeks ago to try and tap into the market for Canberra 9-5 workers to give them a chance to relieve their stress on the slopes.

"We have been running the night skiing for two weeks now, [it] is a new product in which people are getting on board with especially full time workers who are itching to go for a ride on the snow have the chance to do that now".

Queanbeyan resident Katy Ballard said her family enjoyed coming down to Corin because it was good for the children and cheaper than the bigger resorts.

"The Forest is really good because they have made it easier for parents with prams and is a cheaper alternative in comparison to most other ski resorts. It is also great for the kids to help them develop their skills on the snow," Ms Ballard said.

Mr Carter said the resort was also considering further expansions at some point in the future.
