A double-spring rocker and a rodeo board might sound like features of a western fair but they're the newest additions to a safer Corroboree Park in Canberra's north.

The Ainslie park's play equipment has been refurbished to meet current safety standards. It was officially opened by Minister for Territory and Municipal Services Shane Rattenbury on Wednesday.
"For younger children, the new equipment includes a climbing unit with two slides, net and interactive elements and a double spring rocker so children can play together whilst bouncing and balancing," Mr Rattenbury said.
"Older children will be kept busy with a new large net 'basket' and a 'rodeo board' which will challenge their balance and co-ordination skills."
Mr Rattenbury said the park's large steel swing was retained with minor modifications.
But all other elements in the playground were removed to make way for the new, contemporary play equipment.
"Some new seating was also provided in shady locations for parents and carers to relax while the kids play," Mr Rattenbury said.
Corroboree Park was created in the 1920s as part of early Canberra's garden city concept.
It also features a tennis practice wall, a basketball court and an outdoor table tennis unit.
The $175,000 playground upgrade was part of the ACT Government's Healthy Weight Initiative.
