Enlighten Canberra - our annual autumn 'after dark' festival - is officially underway following a 1960s-themed party on Friday night at the National Library of Australia.
From neon clouds and psychedelic light shows to dinners under the stars and giant interactive jellyfish, Enlighten offers hundreds of reasons to head out and explore the capital over the next 16 days, beginning at dusk.
The capital's cultural institutions are once again on board in a big way, with bold projections lighting up the exteriors of the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery, Questacon, Parliament House, the Museum of Australian Democracy and the National Library.
For the first time ever Enlighten is crossing the lake into Civic, with luminous installations lighting up the dark in Petrie Plaza, Bible Lane and at the ANU.
Events ACT acting director Jo Verden said the festival "just gets bigger and better every year", with further changes in 2018 including uniting "much-loved community events" like Lights, Canberra, Action, Symphony in the Park, Canberra Day, the Canberra Balloon Spectacular and Skyfire under the Enlighten Canberra umbrella.
